What help can School give?

My DD age 10 is suffering with her mental health, friendships and school. We had an awful night last night and I have kept her off this morning. I honestly don't know what's for the best but I have contact school to discuss and I was wondering if anyone had any insight in what school can offer. What I should be asking for.

I have a doctors appointment to get her referred for counciling but not sure what else I can do other than be here for her.

Is it a particular group or one friend?
Are there certain things about school she’s struggling with?
Can she suggest anything they could do to help?

I think it depends on what the issues are.

They will probably have a trained ELSA who she could talk to. If there is bullying then there will be procedures to be followed. Class teacher can do talks on friendships.
If there are anxiety triggers school could be informed and you could work on how to avoid and work to overcome.
There are mindfulness apps such as Calm that might help.

They could refer her to the Sch nurse which will be quicker than GP probably. One nurse may cover several schools. I think school nurses work in the holidays too.

Is she Y5 currently?

If you get referred to camhs then don't hold your breath. You pretty much have to be self harming badly to be seen in lots of areas. If things are bad enough to need to see someone, I would definitely consider going private if you can afford it.

It's friendships she struggles with mostly. Hopefully some friendship work will do. I will look into private counciling. Hopefully we can afford it because I want to find a way to get help for her.

Does she not have friends (can you see any reason for it)?
Or is it lots of fallings out, mean girls etc?

Is it something a move of schools could solve?
