ASD & Gifted primary help

I’m looking for some help on where I can find some guidance on primary schools in my area that would suit DS. He’s gifted and being assessed for ASD. Is there somewhere I can go to/an organisation that can help give me options, or if not, what do I need to look at to try and ensure that his needs and well-being are met alongside stimulating him academically so that he doesn’t get bored?

have you seen the website Potential Plus UK? They also have a Facebook page… called Parenting High Potential - you’re more likely to find info there I think

Mine did fantastic in mainstream - she had support written into her IEP and had a mostly brilliant run through primary.

We're in a grammar area so she was able to goto grammar for secondary which has suited her.

What is the current school like? Is it not supporting the asd side well? Maybe join a fb group for send in your area. There should also be a send information service for your area free - run by council but not affiliated to council - you couls contact. They help with any issues with ehcps etc

I think its called "SENDiass" in most areas but was parent partnership or parent information. Worth a google + your area as they should support you through schools/ehcp/advice.

Where in the UK- each country has a different name for their support. I'm in Wales and Snap Cymru are an advocacy service who know the law on this inside out and support parents virtually and face to face to challenge the education department and get the right school place for rach individual child.

Can you give a bit of info re in which way he is gifted and roughly where in the UK you are?

TyrantosaurusRex · 10/07/2022 20:18

@PMAmostofthetime We’re in the SW

@TidyDancer his main strengths are, he knows the alphabet, he correctly identifies all letters upper and lower case without fault, he knows/identifies all phonics, colours & shapes, he’s started to read simple 3 letter words, and can count to 1000 although he hasn’t done 1-1000 in a straight run. He counts out objects and he’s really good at problem solving. He can recite his favourite books entirely by memory as well as many nursery rhymes/songs. He’s 2 and this is mostly self taught.

Sorry, re-read my post, I should’ve said main colours and simple shapes, up to and including hexagon.
