Dear all, I am interested in Durston House for my sons but was lookign to get feedback from parents there or any who were there bnut left to get a better feel for the place. Does anyone have any recent experience of the school since the new headmaster joined three years ago?

would you say it was academically execellent or just good? How is the pastoral care?

Thanks!

My son started this term. He’s had one week there and is very happy so far. We’re disappointed there’s no clubs until year 5 or 6 I think. But music lessons are available. He enjoys the hot food and likes his teachers. Class sizes are small (15). My son isn’t quiet, but he can concentrate/ focus when needed. He likes running around and being boisterous though and yet he seems happy at DH. It is stricter than his old school but he’s acclimating to it. New headmaster is very visionary and seems to be on a mission to overhaul the school to shake off its old grammar style reputation and modernise. Making it co-Ed from next year for example.

UPDATE: After school clubs at Durston House start from Y1. Lots of options to choose from...chess, dance, football, coding, animation, drama etc.

Hey All
How did this work out for everyone?
I have two boys due to start durston (reception and year two) and would love to know how everyone got on.

My eldest currently goes to a school with excellent pastoral care so keen to understand the school vibe on that (the kids not being able to talk whilst walking to playing field did worry me!).

Thanks!

Hello LondonDad201

My son is in Year 1 and I can absolutely say he walks into school sooo happy. There is a huge emphasis on being king to one another.

They have a very strong pastoral team, which is led by a teacher who is very experienced, my son describes her as ‘warm and kind’.

I have a lot of friends in state schools and Durston seems to be quite ahead of what they are learning.

They do really advanced science, when I was at primary we didn’t even really do much science and they have an in-depth religious studies.

Sport is very varied…..hockey, cricket, ball games, athletics etc

I have never seen a group of teachers, TAs, and prep support that look so happy in their job.

The headmaster is very approachable, handles any issues immediately and is very transparent.

This year they have had exceptional leavers destinations…St Paul’s, Hampton, Merchant Taylor’s.

I honestly can say the school is EXCELLENT!

Would be great to hear how your DS get on!
