Do I tell the current school

Hi

We are considering moving our ds to a different school as he has been unhappy for a long time. Would you tell the current school you are going to look around another school?

We had no choice. The new school insisted that we visited with the DC in tow so we felt obliged to tell the existing school why they weren't in school that morning. It wouldn't have been right to lie and expect the DC to maintain the story.
Although I thought that I'd rather go without them, in hindsight it was the right thing to do (to take them to look round the prospective new school).

Would you be taking your DS out on a school day to go look around? If so, and the current school asked, I would be honest about the absence.

If not, I wouldn't say anything yet. You might not like the prospective school.

No.

Don't say too much about his present school when you visit.
I looked around another school and the headteacher rang and told the other headteacher. She divulged details of what I had said (mistakenly, I thought everything would be in confidence). Another parent came with me (she also wanted to move her son). We were horrified.

I would just tell the truth. I teach in a poorly managed school and I know of 3 parents who are moving their children. They've told me as they wanted to let me know that they were very happy with me as the teacher, but were making the move based on their opinions of the management and organization of the school as a whole. (I'm also leaving at the end of the year due to the same reasons so I know exactly how they're feeling)
