Workforce remodelling - ds1's teacher has the right idea!

DS1's topic for the term is "Egyptians". He and another girl have taken in some books, postcards, photos, posters, etc. from home. So they've been 'allowed' to choose some friends to put up the big display together. DS1 came home and spent 1.5 hrs on the computer designing some fab titles and labels and headings on the computer, which he has printed out to take in to school tomorrow to put up on the display!

I think it's great: and far more sensible to encourage him to spend some time on a worthwhile activity than a 'meaningless' task. And it saves the teacher a job too.

sounds good to me. DD went to a small primary, and new that she would be doing Egyptian in yr 5, therefore in yr 4 when we went to Egypt on our holidays, well Roisin it seemed to me, we brought half the bloody country back with us.

fantastic - really values what he has done in taking contributions in, and encourages him to do more

DS's contribution of the week was to take in his copy of Flushed Away on dvd which the class had elected to watch as the class treat, for finally filling the jar with marbles

My dd's teacher managed to break my statuette of Nefertiti when dd took it into school - grrr! This is the same teacher who knocked an open bottle of tipex all over dd's new shoes as well. Lovely lady though, so I gritted my teeth and smiled both times.

I love the idea of getting pupils to make displays - my Yr 10's current favourite is lots of different coloured post-its around a central picture, showing how their feelings about particular characters change as they are reading etc. Next week they are going to use post-its to predict various things in Sherlock Holmes stories. It looks good (although only for a short while) and it's sooo easy to do.
