I’ve got totally caught up in pressure of preparation for 7+ and feel like I’m shouldering whole responsibility of exam myself vs DH. Anyone else in same boat? Live in area where big pressure on places and tuition is the norm. I think similar situation in North London. It’s only June yet time is going fast! Would love to hear from anyone feeling equally stressed! Fortunately my DC seems to be totally unphased!

Was in the same place as you years ago.
Gave myself the proverbial slap on the wrist, it's not about you, but your DC.

All my DC choose the school they want for senior (from our shortlist ofcourse) because they have different personalities.

But as soon as I realised that :
a) I should choose a school where DC will thrive and is most suitable for them personally.
b) You have choices and different entry points, so if you think a particular school would have been really ideal for DC, remember they can try again at 11+, 13+ or even 16+. Tell yourself, they would have matured by then.
c) if your DC cannot get into a particular school, would they thrive in it.

I felt like this when a neighbour said they were transferring their 11+DC away from a top3 school, as they hated it. Everyone was so envious when that DC got in at 7+. But he changed and is so much happier and better somewhere else now.
You can only do as much as you can do. And so can your DC.

Good luck

Thank you, that’s really good advice to help keep things in perspective. I cannot wait until these exams are over!!

@WoodlandWalks123 , it's a really long process and in fact often the worst part for a parent comes after the exams waiting for results and esp if your dc goes onto a waiting list or if your dc is successful at more schools than you expected and you have to make last minute decisions. It's best at this point to keep it all in perspective and put it to the back of your mind for the summer as your dc is only young with many years of education ahead.
Plus the prep schools are so knowledgable about the 7plus that they only offer to dc who will flourish in their set up and sometimes it's better for a dc to wait until 11 for a fast paced environment.
