Bootham Junior School - any recent experience?

We’re mulling over school options for DC, who’ll be starting year 2 in September. Currently at local state primary school, but we were looking a move to Bootham Junior.

We’ve toured and done a taster day, but are feeling underwhelmed. The admin / organisation and follow up has been really poor, and leaves us wondering if it’s a one off, or a sign of what it’s like day to day (although I appreciate having rolling torus and taster days may be disruptive) and I’m not sure it feels fully worth the fees (if that makes sense)

has anyone got kids there atm or had them there recently? If so, what’s it actually like?

Avoid Bootham School - their safeguarding track record is appalling albeit well hidden. You won’t realise until something happens to your child. This has included the school failing to tell parents when the school noticed their child suffering from anorexia leading to a massive delay in treatment, the school giving a child pain killers and then failing to inform the parent so the child ended up overdosing (without any il effects thankfully) and the school leaving a child with epilepsy unattended in a room after the child told teachers they were about to have a seizure so that the child was alone when it happened (and the school subsequently failing to tell parents that this had even happened). The safeguarding lead is useless, the leadership entirely missing and the administration an absolute shambles.

I can’t really speak for the junior school personally but the senior school has been superb. My DD has thrived there. It is a special place - very nurturing and supportive. The children are truly encouraged to grow and develop as their own person but with a sense of community and tolerance. Best decision we ever made and we looked at lots of schools!
