Looking for views on Danes Hill School in Oxshott.

What schools do the ‘smart’ kids go onto? What about the middle and bottom? How are the links with senior schools?

Are Danes Hill kids really viewed by others as rich and privileged but not smart? I have a feeling this view is outdated and unfair.

New head is from St Paul’s junior school, so they seem to have someone solid steering the ship after the difficult time they have had.

Thank you!

I'm local but not a parent.
Yes there are lots of wealthy parents at the school, yes the new incoming head has an amazing reputation and I hear the early years part of the school has benefitted and is very full for Sept.
Re leavers, my ds at Hampton has a classmate from Danes Hill. You can see from their leavers destination list that they feed to the top local schools and I will add that St Johns Leatherhead and Epsom College are very popular with the wealthy parents that Danes Hill attracts regardless of the academic level of their dc.
Claremont Fan school is a good option for a middling dc and dd have so many options in the area for all abilities.
(Until you live near Esher is hard to understand how many day school options are available due to the transport links and private school bus routes).
If you want a top boys boarding school at 13 you should probably consider Shrewsbury House prep school too.

This is hopefully completely outdated now, but the online provision at the Danes during the second lockdown schooling period was excellent. My DC go to another indie in Surrey and I could have cried at the difference!

Does anyone know what the pastoral care is like? Was hoping to send my DD to Boxhill, but have heard such dreadful things about the Head and bullying, so wondered if Daneshill suitable for a sensitive, quiet child.

@Lizbennett , what age is your dc and what entry point are you looking for?
Danes Hill in Oxshott is up to age 13.

You have got a wide range to choose from. If you go for Danes Hill you will have to immediately look for a senior school so probably not advisable.
Your best bet is to do all the girls schools and see where she is offered so Notre Dame Cobham, St Teresa's Effingham, Tormead, Sir William Perkins and if near enough Sutton High. For mixed options as well as Box Hill you have Ewell Castle and the schools deeper into Surrey like Churchers College. Claremont Fan in Esher is super competitive at the moment so wouldn't be a definite offer.
Dd really flourish and develop over the next few years so you may find your dd will find her place during the 11plus entry process and gain confidence once she is there.

Hi,
as someone who’s sister currently attends this school I can confirm it is full of privileged rich entitled kids that can often be a bit mean and tease anyone that’s different. Not trying to start any lawsuits or get sued so this messages is anonymous LOL.
Just being honest

poppybuttons · 13/01/2023 06:58

@ae12345678 , I don't think you are saying anything new! Does your sister like the new head?
