Has anyone ever had an ADHD diagnosis done privately?

Yes, DC received the diagnosis in September year 11 as he was repeatedly refused assessment even with a sibling with adhd

I went with a private group that had a consultant who had practiced for the Camhs NHS in our authority so that the school couldn’t quibble over a private diagnosis

it took 6 weeks from start to medication cost £1200 and was worth every penny. Within another month I had him transferred into our local nhs system for follow on care, no question about diagnosis as it was from a previous consultant

Yes, in our area the CAMHS list is so long they’re assessing referrals from 2017!

Because it’s so dire even private assessment has a waiting list in our area but around 6-9 months rather than years!

We had to pay for medication for a year at a cost of £100 per month (ish) as our GP practice didn’t support shared care agreements for ADHD and private prescriptions aren’t free even for kids. We applied for the SCA at 6 months once dose was stable, got knocked back then spent the next 6 months finding a new GP who would support it, moving across and getting everything set up.

DS still sees the private paediatrician twice per year and they decide his treatment and let the GP know what should be prescribed.
