Ryde School

Wondering if anyone has experience of Ryde School on the Isle of Wight? We're contemplating a move to the Island so if anyone has any insights into life with teenagers there, or high schools, we'd love to hear it. We lived there previously, but that was before children. Thanks in advance!

Ryde school and Upper Chine were both legendary schools in their day. Not sure the new school can compete status wise but it should try. People there literally made friends for life. My dad still meets friends he had there 60 years ago. They left the island straight after 6th form.

A lot of the island had lost what made it great; kids independence, access to sea and boats, personal contacts. If the school is trying to get those things back, do it.If it’s just in it for exams , nah, send them to PGS.

Sorry, what's PGS? And thanks for the advice!

God sorry, had been out that night with a wine or two ( three).
Portsmouth Grammar School (PGS) is round the corner from the car ferry on the mainland. An expensive commute but a few do it.
I don’t really know about state schools but the College isn’t great. Maybe ask in Chat where you might get a few more responses. The Island is so busy now there got to be a few Mumsnetters that live there.

Great, thanks!
