Article is here

I find this very sad and wondered what we could all be doing to try and reduce such high figures.

What do you think?
How can bullying be reduced in schools?

given the high reported incidence of bullying at break/lunch periods, I wonder if more lunchtime clubs/structured activities at lunch time would help, combined with better lunchtime supervision.

i also wonder whether some form of martial arts type thing would help improve pupils self esteeem/behaviour so that they don't react so negatively to other pupils, and find more positive ways to express themself (sorry if that sounds a bit off the wall!)

i think the fundamental point is to take bullying seriously - not sweep it under the carpet/blame the victim

my ds2 stays in the library at break times to keep out of "everyones" (potential bullies) way that is despite having a brother and sister at the same school who would kill on my say so

I also find it very sad and won't even begin to spout my ultra radical views about the education system

Actually I think mts' idea about martial arts is excellent, because the martial arts promote self-discipline and control while providing a positive outlet for aggression. So it would be a good thing for all kids, both bullies and the bullied.
