Guildford or St Albans? for schools and living

I suspect this has been done over and over, I have read through lots of the threads.

We are trying to land on where we want to move with our two and a half year old daughter and six month old son, from Chiswick where we live today.

We've spent time in Guildford and love the area, the shops and the vibe, but are really concerned that unless we want to push our kids into a religious school upbringing, the state schools so very limited outside the church-controlled schools (which seem very religious rather than just a context). We're not entirely out of thinking of private schools, but again, that seems to be limited in Guildford to single-sex education.

It's been a real eye-opener to me that religion is having any play in our plans at all - being as you might have guessed, agnostic / atheist. Never expected this complication!

Anyone been through the same journey and have any guidance?

I don't think George Abbott or County are particularly religious are they?

There is one catholic secondary and two catholic primaries in Guildford. There are 4 other secondaries (county and George abbot are the only two you want to consider) and countless fairly unreligious state primaries. There are also quite a few coed private schools very near Guildford. I think you maybe need to a little more research!

Thank you both, you are of course spot on, we've been using the Admissions Day website, but this is clearly not showing the full story.
