Bute house or LEH or Latymer Prep

Hi all,my DD sat for 7plus exams for LEH, BUTE HOUSE and Latymer Prep. She has got offer letter from LEH and may also get Bute house. Please can parents from Bute or LEH share their experiences of both schools.. at 11plus, we may choose grammar and not necessarily independent schools. So that's another angle to think of when it comes to these schools. Help please?

Where do you live? I live near LEH and my ds uses the Hampton bus which is shared with LEH. How is your dd going to get to school? If you are considering Tiffin and send your dd to LEH then you will have to tutor for the Tiffin exam. If you choose LEH I would expect your dd would go onto LEH seniors. If you want St Pauls for seniors then you should go for Bute. I would have through the options will be clear if you get a Bute offer.

We live in Twickenham. Got to move houses for Bute. Thinking if it's worth the effort for St Paul's

I'm sure if you get the Bute offer then it will be easier to make a decision. Although Twickenham is a great place to live and LEH juniors a really lovely school, I know it well. You would then have the option of Tiffin too.

It sounds like you aren't set on LEH seniors. You need to be to go there really so think about that. You live nearby and so it would be sensible choice. LEH seniors is brilliant and not far off SPGS in competitiveness.

If moving house is a genuine option, it means long term you have more of the West London schools nearby - SPGS, G&L, PHS, WHS, FHS, LUS ... all amazing. Plus grammars like you mention which Bute do prep for too and send DDs to each year.

We picked Bute so I am biased. DD adores it. It is a really fun school, caring, high standard of teaching and amazing facilities for a London prep. Keeps options open longer term. Although you do have the 11+ stress. Don't go assuming you'll get SPGS as reality only around a quarter of the year go there, some years less. We probably won't actually apply for SPGS as my DD seems to be middly at Bute from comments so far despite passing 7+. But I don't know if Bute middly is still really high in the grand scheme. We will wait and see what they advise.

If you get Latymer and like the co-ed element that might be good for avoiding the avalanche of friend issues which both my DDs seem to have - two different girls schools...!

If you’d be happy with LEH seniors I’d stick with that if you want to avoid the 11 plus stress. I guess if you’re happy to do the 11 plus the world is your oyster! My daughter will be joining LEH Juniors in September x

Seems mad to me to move and then send her to a school with 11+ issues meaning you might end up moving again as the grammars are all too far away, personally I'd go for LEH

Hi,
My daughter is doing Bute House exam end of this week. Any chance are you able to share your DD experience with the assessment please. Thank you.

Hi there
The 7+ was writing, reading, maths paper and DD also talked about lots of games and talking activities. We just did past paper from other 7+ schools and lots of reading and writing. On the day my DD came out really happy and said it was fun and the teachers kind. Then the call back interview was very normal questions and a reading task. They interviewed us as parents too. Lots of focus on our long term ambitions and reminding that they are not part of SPGS.

We are delighted with our choice of Bute. DD adores it. The standards are high but also the care and focus on fun and lots of time given to wellness teaching. The school is forward thinking which I like compared to my other DC's schools. They keep the pressure off. But there are many tiger parents who don't!

The new head is from a less academic school and I am unsure what direction the school is going in. The style is different from when we joined under the old head and a lot of the senior staff have changed over but I am sure that is normal as it had been the same for a while I believe. They keep on getting the good results. It is one of the few unashamedly ambitious girls schools in London.

Bute House opens a lot of doors, so definitely wouldn't turn it down lightly. My daughter just finished there last year. We loved it.

Thank you so much for the reply. Much appreciated. Just can hope my DD will manage the assessment/activities on the assessment day.
Thank you for taking the time to write the detail - I really appreciate it.
