Warwick or Solihull school help!!!

Wondering if anyone has any views on these two schools for my boys? Solihull seems to be harder to get into. Does this mean there is a higher calibre of teaching/students? What about pastorally and friendship groups? It’s so hard to pick one over the other.
My daughter is in Kings High already - Solihull would have been too academic for her. However, the boys are much more able academically (near the top of their classes) and v.sporty - one is especially talented and keen.

Everyone at the prep school they are in seems to favour Solihull with Warwick as a back up almost to those who don’t get in and I’m not sure why? Does anyone know people at either school or experiences?

(Although, logistically with my daughter at Warwick it may make events/pick ups easier all at one place….but then how many pick ups do you even have to do once in Senior school!!!)
Thanks so much

I would say both schools are on a par. In my experience, Solihull is not as academic as it claims and the pastoral care is not as good as at Warwick. Solihull no longer publishes its exam results but when they did Warwick’s grades were always higher. It’s very interesting that the grades to get into Solihull School’s 6th form are lower than Bromsgrove (which traditionally has been the back up school locally for Warwick and Solihull). Solihull also has a reputation of asking DC to leave after their first year of A levels if their grades are not up to scratch. However, both schools have parents paying for a huge amount of tutoring quietly in the background although few will admit this.

Locally, Solihull is known as the party school. In 6th form there seems to be a party every weekend. This also means a big drinking culture. Warwick boys tend to socialise with the Kings girls but the partying doesn’t seem to be as extreme. On the sports side, traditionally, Warwick was stronger at rugby. Neither school can compete with the quality, depth and range of sport that Bromsgrove offers especially at 6th form.

I know Warwick has had some disruption with head changes but think that has settled down. Solihull has a new head joining in September. This will be good for the school because the current head hasn’t been very popular. In my circle, those who know both schools have usually chosen Warwick over Solihull and personally, if I had a DD at Kings, I would too.

Thankyou so much for you response. Only being in the area for a year or two and not knowing the reputations they have, this is so helpful

Glad that was helpful. Having brought up 3 children in the Midlands, I’m happy to share my experiences. Pm me if you have any other questions.
