I can't work it out, when does my dd start school?

She is 3 in October 2008. Will it be when she is nearly 5?
She is due to start montessori when she's 3, maybe a bit before.
I know I sound dim, but I'm just a bit of a beginner, that's all.

Reception in Sept 2010. You would apply probably the autumn or spring before , depending on your area.

Speak to the admissions dept at your local LEA. Children start reception as a 'rising 5' so the term before their 5th birthday.
E.g my dd1 is 5 in March 09 and starts Jan 09 but some LEAs/schools only have one intake in Sept which may mean your LO starting 3 terms before they are 5. If you want a nursery place a school they will start earlier so speak to the school you want to apply to in that case.

The term that starts before her 5th birthday - so, the September before her 5th birthday. However, you are entitled to defer this until the term that starts after her 5th birthday ie. the following January.

If you are in Scotland she must start school (or HE) by the August when she's nearly 6, and may start school in the August when she's nearly 5. Most children here start in the August when they are between 4 1/2 and 5 1/2. No other starts available, generally.

Children are not actually obliged to start school until the term after their 5th birthday but you might not get the school of your choice if you do that.

Here you can start full-time school (reception class) the September after your 4th birthday by my calculations it will be Sept 2010 like other ladies have said.
