Secondary School (Y7) Points

Hi dd started in September. We haven't had any face to face meetings obviously so this may change things.

We haven't been told anything about the points.

I saw on Facebook a mum of a year 11 had received a letter home to say they reached the target 65 points.

Are all schools / years the same.

Thank you x

Nope, all schools are not the same.
DS's school hands points out 1/3/5 at a time, with 5 a week for just showing up on time everyday.
My school (not a teacher) hands them out only 1 at a time. Hence the kids have a lot less!

If your child is happy, settled, and you are not getting calls/messages about poor behaviour or detentions, be happy. Hopefully you will get a chance to talk to his tutor or teachers, or get a progress report soon, and that will confirm if all is well. But basically, if you arent hearing anything, all is ok. If there is an issue, expect (hope?) to hear about it.

All school have different systems. Many won’t have points at all but some completely other way of showing they are pleased with how pupils behave. Tends to be more rewards given to year 7s to reward them for following rules, submitting work etc as they transition to secondary. As PP said no news is good news at secondary school. I wouldn’t think about it at all.

Thank you. Sometimes she's had 10 points at once for effort. I've asked about it and she said she didn't try. She's dyslexic and doesn't like school so I find it hard to believe they would give them her for nothing? Maybe it's to encourage her?

Every school is different, I'm afraid- 65 would be an average for the whole year at my school! My DC's school about 600 average for whole academic year.
