Does it ever work in school.

ds1 does dance and just pisses around.

He showed us what they were doing - I would piss around tbh

Why not teach them lifts or tap.

or football?

they do seem to learn odd things. though son was asked if he wanted to join the street dance group but suppose it just isn't cool at school is it.

My ds (5) loves it - they are doing Russian dancing at the moment and all seem to enjoy it

I think thereis a huge differnce between a 5 yra od and a 14 year old tbh

street dancing IS cool - why not cncentrate on things they would find fun - what use is it really aprt form body awareness and confidnece

Oh yes, ours do loads of dance and it's fantastic. They all love it - right up to yr6.

In the juniors they do PE separately - boys and girls, so logically do dance separately too. Every year they get this 'cool black guy from London' [quotes from ds1] in to do street dance workshops with each class, then they put on performances at the end of the week. Boys and girls all love it.

But school also have someone else who comes in regularly to do various different forms of dance with the children. (She is a parent, but I don't know if she does it on a voluntary basis or whether she is paid.)

DS1 is not terribly sporty, definitely not athletic, and generally not very well-co-ordinated. But he loved learning the Tango with her!
The mind boggles

Same guy comes in to our secondary though and only the girls sign up to do the workshops
