Just that really. What would you expect or what does your dc get homework wise for year 5?

2 "mymaths" exercises. Takes about 20min. SPAG.com now, used to be a comprehension sheet. Also some spellings to practice. Reading 4 x a week and signed.

Once a half term is a "home learning" project.

What I don't like is they are given detentions if they don't do it.

Per week (set Thursday and in for the following Tuesday) Maths and English with three levels of challenge and an extension task. Meant to take no longer than 20 minutes each, I think. Optional things like an anti bullying poster some weeks. Also learning spellings.

drpaddington · 24/10/2021 16:30

DD brings home a folder each week containing 4 sheets. Spellings- they have to write about 20 words, 5 times. Then a sheet of 4-5 comprehension questions. Times tables with inverse- about 80 questions- and a sheet of maths questions. Plus reading every day.

MrsBungle · 24/10/2021 16:34

My y5 ds each week has:

Learn spellings for weekly test
Complete maths exercises on mathletics
Complete reading and comprehension exercises on bug club
Tends to take him around an hour or so.

2 tasks on IXL Maths, 10 minutes on TT Rockstars and a task on Spellzone or IXL for English each week. All of it takes no longer than 45-50 mins.

MintJulia · 24/10/2021 16:39

30 mins per night, 5 nights a week plus some kind of project over half term or Xmas or Easter.

happytoday73 · 24/10/2021 16:41

A week?
At least 15 minutes reading 5 nights a week.
20 minutes readtheory
20 minutes mathsshed
20 minutes times table rockstars
20 minutes spelling shed

In my area lots have a tutor in yr5 as grammar schools

WholeClassKeptIn · 24/10/2021 16:44

30mjns a night!? Gosh glad we aren't at that school!

Ours did tt rockstars until end of yr 4 then they were tested. Didn't need to do it after that if all fine.

WholeClassKeptIn · 24/10/2021 16:45

Does look like a lot of schools have moved to apps.

happytoday73 · 24/10/2021 19:57

Yes agree rockstars normally isn't yr5.. Wasn't with my eldest.. ... But is for this year as they need to get faster again with their x tables I'm told.. Some have dropped back...

Cornishbelle · 24/10/2021 20:23

Just wondering as do seems to get nothing, some spelling sheets sent home but tests not materialised. Will be raising at parents evening I think. Am glad my school is happy to read and do some bits with a little persuasion Grin but imagine lots are doing nothing at all which is such a shame it feels like school has not got back into the swing after lockdown tbh was quite impressed before

So many schools now use apps. And yes do discuss at parents evening with the teachers. Perhaps you could make up your own homework for him to do in the meantime (there are workbooks you could buy etc) online.

Essexmum321 · 25/10/2021 05:01

I’m quite surprised at the spellings, DD is year 6 but hasn’t had spellings since year 3, probably spends 2.5 hours a week on homework.

WholeClassKeptIn · 25/10/2021 07:49

I don't like spellings that are just fir the sake of it but quite like what my yr 5 gets. It's a collection of similar endings or similar meanings or often mixed up words. I quite like the chance to spend 15mins a week on these!

Aside from reading I would guess homework takes under an hour here.
