Hi all,
What experiences do people have of what is involved in the entrance assessments for year 3?
For example, Tormead / St Catherines say they are assessed in English, Mathematics, and Reasoning - but you can't prepare!

Do you mean the 7+ so child is year 2 currently joining year 3 next sept?

Usually it will be end of year 2 level maths, possibly with some puzzle/word problems. Then reading comprehension paper or read with a teacher and be asked questions aloud. For reasoning it is harder to majorly change scores but practice using ATOM online or Bond books certainly helps familiarise.

You certainly can prep by going over the maths curriculum and then doing some comprehension papers. Lots of reading aloud and get ally answering too.

Although knowing Tormead and St Cats, they are both pretty keen to give places at the moment- especially tormead which is a less selective school and so unless your daughter is majorly struggling you should be ok without prepping.

GHS is obviously way more selective as lots apply for just a few places at this stage.

Yes 7+, assessments are in January,
Thanks for the reasoning tips.
Re Tormead / St Cats - why do you say they are keen to give places at the moment?
