Sixth form rugby scholarships

After some advice from you lovely people. My son is in year 10. He’s at a local independent school, and very happy, but he is a very good rugby player and keen on a professional career. (That’s understating it, it’s his life ambition).

He’s started to mention to me that he’d be interested in changing to a school with better rugby training for sixth form, but I really have no idea where to start, so was hoping you lot might have some suggestions!

He’s bright, will likely get all 7-9s for his GCSEs. He’s a good rugby player - his school and club teams are undefeated this season, and he’s the best player in both. He’s open to boarding, and for the right place, we could probably make it work financially- although any reduction in fees would be appreciated…

So, what do you all think?

Thanks @Antonia2021 that’s good to know. I basically have no clue what I’m doing, but really want to support him because he seems good and basically won’t contemplate any other career options…but in fairness to him, he works very hard on his game and general fitness and does work at school so can’t complain!

Good luck to him! My advice is to play as many dpp games and festivals as possible as that’s where they select ..

And ofc club rugby and school rugby are another route to England rugby )

Thank you! He plays every game he can get, so will definitely be following that advice! 🤞🏼

Another one saying DPP, its the route I followed at the start of my career, selections do happen at games, so being committed during season is really really important.

Thank you @Simonjt this is very reassuring that he’s on the right path. I really appreciate all the people who have taken the trouble to reply.

I'm sorry but if he is still in DPP, has no one mentioned PDG to you? Is he in an RFU associated club? If he is as good as you think he is he would be in PDG and on the local premiership club's academy. My sons have through the process so I do know.
