Does anyone know when the outcome for the remaining modifications of GCSEs/A levels are to be announced?

I seem to remember when doing the consultation that a determination was due in early September but perhaps that was just a fantasy on my part. I can’t seem to find any statement or speculation about it - perhaps my google skills are slipping.

Is anyone else more clued in?

No. They keep saying 'soon'. Why this isn't a bigger scandal I do not know. The consultation was exactly the same as last year's yet they've taken longer over the whole thing. Parents should be up in arms. I don't know why they're not.

I thought the idea of possibly restricting exam content was so that schools which didn’t cover enough last year could focus their teaching on what was needed (right - let’s can weathering and deserts etc) but surely if the news comes much later it just becomes a horribly unfair lottery. I have images of teachers frantically powering through untaught syllabus only to learn that everything they have done in the first half of term isn’t needed.

Or have I misunderstood the point of restricting content?

And yes - I couldn’t understand why google was throwing up no articles on the whole topic since July. Why is no one talking about this?

I would be up in arms if I knew how to constructively do this. Who do I complain to?

I don't want to complain to the school, which is my only real contact point, as it's clearly not their fault either and they are as fed up as parents. (and now starting to teach the content that might not be on the syllabus because they can't leave it indefinitely)

Yes, all through out the lockdowns and confusion over what the measures were for exams over the last two years, our school have been trying to update parents as best they could. They were literally finding out the information at the same it was being reported, ie same time as us. It’ll be last minute.com from the government, as usual, no doubt. Nadhim Zahawi is ‘building’ a school today though so probably doesn’t have time. 🙄

It's Ofqual that we're waiting on at the minute. You can contact them on their website.

It's ridiculous, isn't it? They could be wasting time right now teaching stuff which is going to get binned.

GrammarTeacher · 26/09/2021 06:06

We almost certainly are.
