Christmas Break

Hi , please don’t judge me , we’ve been given a chance to go away this Xmas we have one child in year 11 so she has her mocks after Christmas
Would it be a bad idea to have a week away ?when maybe she should be revising

I am in two minds she’s the sort of child that isn’t really motivated as much as we support & encourage her & has to work at it to obtain reasonable grades
I’m just asking to see what other views are

My daughter is in year 11 and I would definitely take her away for a week over Christmas. I don't think I'd take her for the whole of the Christmas holidays but realistically I don't think she'd do much revision anyway.
My eldest did her exams last year and didn't revise at all over the Christmas holidays as she needed a break.

Yeah this is a good idea.

not a good idea

What kind of holiday ?

For example if it's a cottage somewhere remote, she could study while you do boring stuff like go for a hike. I had a y11 who worked hard and she took at least 5 days off from studying. As long as your child studies on the other days I think it's fine tbh

Yes we've done this, everyone needs a break. Christmas holidays fine but I wouldn't do it at Easter.
DC just studied all the days we were at home in Christmas holidays.

Can't she do some studying while you're away?

randomuseragain · 03/10/2021 15:29

It's fine so long as there is a quiet room they can study in whilst they are there and really treat it as normal studying time, just in a different room.

Would not advise a whole week off studying, as I presume Christmas week would be off too? Or at least a good chunk of it

Thankyou all for your thoughts & advice we’ve booked a week away it’s been a hard time on everyone including the kids with covid .
My dd will have to revise prior to going away & do some more in the mornings while we are away
She is currently having tutoring via zoom so maybe this could continue
