Is it common for Year 6 students change to another school? Waiting for a school near us for so long

No it's not common at all, due to having to move schools again the following year.

There were quite a few new people in Year 6 in DD's year. I think there are definitely people who like to get moved before secondary admissions. I actually think it worked out ok - by Year 6, children are bored with existing friendship groups (DD's best friends in Year 6 were actually 2 newcomers) and if you're moving for continuity of secondary school , it may be a new school, but you'll hopefully be moving with lots of friends.

Moved my daughter in year 6 , best move we made, no regrets . Agree with the previous post, the other children were pleased to have someone new in the class.
Daughter then moved onto secondary with one of the girls and they are still very close friends.
Had DD stayed at her previous primary school, there would have been no who would have gone to her secondary school with her.
