Hi my son 5 years old has a global delay he still can’t talk his getting 1 on 1 help but is only getting 1 and a half hours in school I’ve spoken with his senco and they keep saying they don’t want to increase time as they feel son can’t handle more time at school I’m wondering if anyone else on here is in same situation thanks

In England that is an illegal exclusion. Have you got an EHCP for him?

Yeah he does have EHCP and on it they do say to slowly build time up till his at full time but just not sure how long they expect to take as his in year 1 now and they have been saying since last year foundation stage

Is there Ipsea or Parent Partnership operating near you who could advise. How many hours is the one to one funded for by LA? What are they doing for rest of the day?

So he is only in school for 90 mins a day? Did he go to pre-school and do longer hours? Could they start to extend so he starts later and it moves into lunch time, the he gets social time with his classmates, then get earlier and earlier start, or extend into the afternoon when they do things like art. By now, he should be doing more time than 90 minutes as that is significantly below full time school.

Ask the school for a written plan of how and when they are extending his hours.
If he has an EHCP then the school should be using the SEND funding to support him to have the same access to the whole school day as his peers.
Get a written trail from the school and then speak to your Local Authority about them excluding him.
