Learning my child numbers

My dd has just turned 4. She is really struggling with the concept of counting. Always happens to mix up her numbers. I always encourage my child to count. I would really appreciate suggestions on how to get her to learn to count

Hi op, don’t force it. Just add it into your daily life and she will pick it up. Count the bowls/plates as you put them onto the table. Count the steps as you climb the stairs (forwards going up, and bs wards when you come down). Count how many dogs you see on a walk etc.
The exposure will help it cement.
You can go on number hunts, focussing on one number at a time “can you find the number 3 in our house?” “How many can we spot in the supermarket/on the way to school?”.
Is English your first language? If not focus on teaching her securely in your own language first. She will learn to transfer her skills into English at school.

Numberblocks on television and magazines etc

Number locks is actually fantastic - my DC often sings the little rhymes they do, and understands so much because of the way they present it.

I wouldn’t worry about it, some children take longer on others and I t is common to mix them up or miss a certain number out(one of mine always skipped the number sixteen). Just keep doing the everyday things that I am sure you already are like counting steps as you go up them, counting how many blue cars you see on the way to the park etc

Also counting is different to understanding of number. You can teach a child to count and they might parrot it back but they need to know that it relates to the number of things. So things like asking her to give you 3 grapes or find 5 dinosaurs.
