7+ Prep Independent School Test

Hi all, Does any of you have any idea about how many children sit for assessment test for 7+ for the well known independent schools like Hampton prep, Habs Boys, St.Pauls or KCJ and how many seats do they have to offer at this stage. Just wanted to calculate the chances of getting into one of them.

Also, any recourses you used for your DS to prepare for 7+ test will be a great help.

Thanks

KCJ admit 54 boys at 7+ according to their website. There are sample papers on the website for English and Maths and details of the other assessments which take place. Looking through the papers would give you a good idea of the standard required.

St Paul's also admit 54 boys according to their website. There is a recommended reading list on there too and the maths syllabus which needs to be covered so that would give you a good idea of things to get started on.

I would suggest that you look through the websites of all the schools that you are interested in as a first step as there is lots of information there. There are always lots more boys sitting than places available but lots of boys sit for multiple schools so difficult to assess your chances really.

You should assume a ratio of about 10 to one if not more for the top schools - St Paul's, Westminster, KSJ. Not sure about Hampton or UCS

Hampton Prep have an "assured place" system of entry to Hampton Boys so it's slightly different as many of the year will go to other schools at age 11.

My son sat last year and got a place at Habs Boys. I believe there was 196 boys and 18 got offered places, so around 9% chance. I think around 50 boys were called back for the second round, and then 18 offered places.
