At present my dd is with a childminder but next year she turns 3 and I would like to put her several days in a nursery although I am finding it very difficult to get good info about this. I have tried Southwark council who are pretty useless and I have asked around alot but am finding most schools are private is there such a thing as state funded nursery schools anymore. Can anyone tell me if its true that the government pay a certain amount towards nursery when 3 as I am getting conflicting advice.

Are there any good websites which could help me out here?

If anyone knows of a good nursery school in the East Dulwich area (SE22) it would be much appreciated, I believe that Puddleducks is a good one but thats where it ends unless you want to pay loads and send them to DUCKS which is part of Dulwich College.

State funded day nurseries which take babies and chidlren are very rare and are for families in need. Most London state primary schools have nursery classes attached and some boroughs have state nursery schools. These are usually part time and are mostly for rising 4 children,(very occasionally they take them younger if they are low on numbers); ie they are 4 in that school year. You don't need vouchers for these. I think vouchers can be used at private nurseries and playgroups and preschools when they are 3 but not sure of the regulations, someone else will be I'm sure.

Dulwich Wood is a state nursery offering full and part time places, with a v. good reputation. Buds pre school on the common is in a pleasant spot, Dulwich village pre school also nearby. I think most nurseries state and private acknowledge the nursery vouchers. Will need transport for Dul Wood , but not too far.
