Hi all,

DD is 5 and in reception.

They do read write inc and use Oxford reading books.

She's currently on the green books but she's been on them for a while now and the books just just keep being repeated. She practically knows them off by heart.

I asked her teacher when would she move up to purple and she said she'd have her assessed this week.
She's come home today. She's been assessed and her note book just says" read well, blended her words " but she wasn't moved up. No idea why. But 2 others were. I think she is now one of the last to be on green books.

I know it's not a big deal on the grand scheme of things but we ( mainly my husband) are concerned she is behind.

To us she reads really well, considering she couldn't read at all at the beginning of year.

Does anyone know what it is they are looking for when they move them up reading bands or not?
We have no idea what else we should be doing?

People care so much about what levels their child is in ks1. In ks2, no one really cares, because apart from those struggling, they are all moved up to similar levels and no one talks about it.
And those who are ahead in ks1 won't always stay ahead in ks2. A lot of children clicks and start over taking those who were ahead.

@FlamingoYellow we do each book twice, there is a certain improvement the second time when they are more confident in the story, so I think you should probably follow the schools advice. On other days we do an online book the school provides via its portal. It does get reloaded so they end up doing it about 3/4 times but not straight away.

helpmewiththisnew oh I'm sure there is an improvement the second time reading it through but the school books DS brings home are so bloody boring, reading them through multiple times would probably put him off books for life Grin. I've taught other dcs to read without any problem so I'm pretty happy doing things my own way 🙂.
