High Wycombe

Hi,
Could you please advise?
Is High Wycombe a good place to live? I am considering HW as it seems that it is the only place I can afford to buy a house with a budget max 400K. My DD will soon have her GCSE, so we need to think about a good sixth form school. I work in Ealing Broadway and will have to commute daily.
Any suggestions are much appreciated.
Thank you!

High Wycombe is nice enough. Some areas right in the centre are not so good, lots of the outer areas are fine. If you are looking to be able to easily access amenities like shops, cinemas and bowling you may want to be in HW itself. If you are less bothered by that sort of thing you may want to look at heading west to somewhere like Stokenchurch or Chinnor in Oxfordshire where you won't need to contend with traffic jams getting on to the motorway.
Schools wise, there is a grammar system here and to a certain extent schools reflect this. You will have the option of grammar sixth forms (Wycombe High, Beaconsfield High, girls only, or Borlase, mixed), or all ability schools. In HW itself there is only Cressex, which I believe only offers childcare, or Highcrest, not sure of their offering. Slightly further out in Hazelmere you have Ramsey and Holmer Green schools. There are also further education colleges, Wycombe itself or Henley which is much more academic as the South Oxfordshire schools only go to year 11 so most kids go to Henley College for Alevels. You need to understand what your daughter is predicted in her GCSEs and see what schools she might gain access to. Good luck!

A lot of student housing because of the university. Stay south of the town centre. Any other direction and traffic will be a nightmare
