Ofsted interviewing children

Hi all,

I've been reading reports of Ofsted interviewing primary and secondary children about sex and relationships. One report even said that Ofsted had asked younger girls if they knew any gay friends or if they knew about sex. I just feel uncomfortable with this - I don't personally want my kids being asked these questions by people they've just met! Does anyone have any examples? Does this really happen?

Where exactly are these reports coming from? I've been ofstedded about a dozen times, and the questions to children have never remotely resembled those.

Do you feel safe at school?
Is there a grown up you can seek help from?
How are concerns addressed?
How do teachers let you know what to do to improve your work?

I've read that article, and the suggested questions that OFSTED discussed asking seem entirely reasonable to me.

It's hugely important that OFSTED discovers a school's attitude to gay pupils and other minorities. The only people who can give an honest impression of what it's like to be one of those pupils in the school, are the pupils themselves.

I don't believe for a second that an OFSTED inspector would have asked some of the questions that the Christian school claimed. They were put in special measures for (among other things) intolerance. They're bound to be trying to put a spin on things here.

I've just followed the link and read the article and I can't see the problem with any of the questions asked.

It wasn't asking if children knew anyone who was gay; it was asking if children had heard the word gay being used as an insult, whether they understand why that was unkind and what teachers would do if that happened.

Ofsted inspectors need to be sure that schools tackle bullying and that includes homophobic bullying.

Typical Daily Mail scaremongering.

Fair points, but isn't the problem bigger? eg. www.theguardian.com/education/2017/nov/19/school-inspectors-to-question-primary-school-girls-who-wear-hijab

Feels too personal for me..
