If your child is in year 3 or 4 at a prep school, how much time ti they have with their class teacher? I'm having reservations as the school my DD at is nearly all class teacher for reception - Y2 and then after that in y3 and 4 they only see their teacher about 50% of the time. If seems so much of a jump. They also don't have a TA anymore.

My son's prep was small (but excellent). So French and Music roughly alternated between two teachers each year from pre-prep. Art teacher involved from pre-prep. One maths teacher throughout from year 3, science the same either from year 3 or year 4. English / History / Geography with class teacher till year 5 then specialists. DT with specialist from year 3 too.

Games was class teacher plus specialists (both of which had a subject specialty as well), till at least year 4 or 5.

Because there was just one class there wasn't much "who goes where" to remember, they moved around together. And I think they supported the year 3s fairly closely for things like individual music lessons. The pattern seemed to work well for that school.

Prep was fairly strictly allocated on a weekly timetable especially in year 3 and 4. So you knew for which subjects they should have homework to complete on any given day.
