Need advice on how well ds is actually doing

Had ds's review day. He is 7 in Jan but they tested his reading and spelling ages about a month ago. Anyway the results surprised me as he is reading at the age of a 8yr 6 month old and his spelling is coming out at 8yr 8 month. Obviously ds is doing really well but what do these age tests really mean? I just wondered why they did them and how?
They did comment that he does chat too much. Wonder where he gets that from?

When I was 6yo I got tested as having a reading age of 9yo. I kept the reading age of a 9yo until I was 10, of course. So just speaking from personal experience, I wouldn't read too much into it. Just be glad he's obviously doing well.

It also said on his sheet he brought home tonight that he had a level 2C for English and 2C for maths. What does that mean...please! It's all new to me

It means he's completely fine for his age. At the end of Year 2 they do their SATs and the standard level required is level 2 - 2c is the lowest of level 2 and 2a is the highest - so it seems as if he's well on target for a solid level 2 or even a 3c at the end of yr 2 - hope this helps!

Is level 2 good then as I really do not understand the levels at all.
