Does anyones DC learn the drums in school. What do you need to practise on, as we don't have room for a full drum set.
DS wants to learn the drums, he did learn the piano in primary but thanks to a change in teacher gave up about a year ago.

He also has dylexic tendancies and found following music quite difficul. He was learning most of his piano pieces by ear and memory. He can name the notes etc but just has problems following them fast enough to play. From what I have been told he does have a good ear for music.

Am I right in assuming that drum music will be easier to follow?

Drum kit is a good choice for a dyslexic child as he will not have to decipher long pieces of written music. He will probably learn much of it by ear (exam pieces are written, but are very short). My DS started with a snare drum only and we built up his kit. He now owns a digital drum kit. This uses about the same amount of space as a "real" kit, so probably not an option for you.
