Hello .

Is there a set timescale of in year appeals ?

I have read on other council websites that these must be heard within 30 days however our local one doesn't mention this.

There are time spans around which admission appeals should be held. For appeals in reception /year 7 most LAs say that there is a cut off date for appeals but in reality that is not a cut off date, it is a date which you must appeal by for the LA to guarantee that the appeal will happen before the start of school in September.
The Admission Appeals guidance says that appeals must be heard within 40 school days of the deadline for lodging appeals. You must also be given 10 school days notice of the appeal.
Applications for appeal for in-year admission appeals must be heard within 30 school days of the appeal being lodged.
Having said that, with COVID, there has had to be significant changes to the way that appeals are heard and there has been legal guidance that in effect means that the timescales stated above can be extended.
