My DS is in year 2 at a prep school and is very bright. He is near the top of his class and scored 130+ in VR, NVR and Maths at the start of year 2 in his CAT4 test so I know it's not just me imagining things.
Ordinarily we would have considered getting him to do 7+ for KCS and SP but we didn't want to do it this because we didn't have the opportunity to visit any of the schools. If he did get in, it would have meant us moving to be closer to the school. So that was something that we didn't want to attempt without even visiting. Of course, I am not assuming he would have got in, but I think he could have had a good chance.
But over the last term we have realised that DS almost certainly has ADHD (prep agrees) and we are now in the process of getting him assessed privately.
How supportive are the top London schools like KCS of SEN? I know they expect children to be able to cope with the fast pace of learning but I don't know if they will make the other adjustments that he could need? We were initially thinking of trying the 8+ or 10+ for these schools but are we better off looking for a different set of schools altogether? Any suggestions of schools that are welcoming of SEN but also academically challenging?
Also to add, his current prep are very good at recommending the right schools for their students at 11+ but we don't know if we should wait until then for senior school entry. We were hoping to avoid the pressure of 11+ of possible.
Ultimately we want to choose the right school for DS so it's just a case of figuring out what that should be.
