Crystal Palace primaries

Considering buying a house near the Crystal Palace triangle - on one of the roads directly opposite CP station.

We don’t have children yet but would look to start a family while living in the house.

The closest primary is Paxton but it’s a 13 min walk away and I’m slightly concerned about catchment areas. Does anyone have a sense of where this address would put you for primaries?

Palace Road if that makes a difference!

If you get onto the Lambeth website, you should be able to find information about the distance at which the last place was awarded in recent years. Generally, though, with most London primary schools I'd be surprised if anyone living 13 minutes walk away got a place on distance grounds (although they might of course get a place under some other category). Many London primary schools don't have formal catchment areas, but the area from which each admits is often tiny.

Don’t choose Paxton- we pulled our kids out and so has everyone in our road. The schools that I hear positive things about are Dulwich Wood and Rockmount. Happy for you to PM me if you want to know more about Paxton.

www.locrating.com/ has a great catchment map for any borough

How long do you plan on staying?

That area of London I’d be looking at the quality of secondaries as well. It can be difficult, location dependent, and also depend on sex, as there are more girls schools than boys.

London as well doesn’t have catchments, only home to school distance. Read the admissions.

Is Palace road really a 13 min walk from Paxton? It’s over a massive hill which will slow you down, and in a different borough (not a show stopper).

You’ll be nearer to James Dixon primary (same borough and downhill)
