QTS and working in Early years

Hi just wondering if anyone can clarify something for me. Applying for a job in a nursery setting - asking for qualification listed here

www.education.gov.uk/eypqd/search/search.cfm

I have QTS which is listed but mine is in the younger primary years not specifically early years. (I have experience with early years and teaching foundation stage however)

My qualification is from early 200s

Does this count? Thanks for any help.

It states *Qualified teacher and early years teacher status
Staff count towards the EYFS staff:child ratios at level 3 or 6 if they have been awarded:

qualified teacher status (QTS)
early years teacher status (EYTS)
early years professional status (EYPS)
They do not need separate level 2 literacy and numeracy qualifications. This applies to people awarded QTS, EYTS or EYPS before and after 1 September 2014*

However it is not clear if it means one or all of these.

Well it counts in ratio so I guess so.

I would assume it does and apply anyway if you want it. But big up any early years experience you have specifically.

Thanks for the replies Flowers

Mine is PGCE Lower Primary focus with QTS.

Hope it works out. I moved from early primary to nursery at one point and loved the change.

It has the negative of long hours but benefit of being able to leave it behind and less pressure in terms of Ofsted targets etc. Also I prefer working with others as part of a team and the nature of young children.

It looks like it is either of those qualifications as think you either get QTS or one of the other ones. Going to try emailing DofE to check though.

It says on UCAS website

Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS) is different to QTS, allowing you to specialise in working with children up to five years old only. You'll be required to meet all aspects of the early years Teachers' Standards in order to gain Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS)

therefore seems it is either / or, as can't have both

Also

Early Years Professional Status (EYPS) is a professional status for practitioners in England at the Early Years Foundation Stage (ages 0 – 5), which is intended to be broadly equivalent to Qualified Teacher Status (ages 5 – 18). ... In 2013, Early Years Professional Status was replaced by Early Years Teacher Status (EYTS)

So seems they are the same sort of thing.

Yes your QTS meets one of the requirements. EYPS can be achieved as a top up later on if you so wish or as a stand alone qualification.
I did mine many moons ago as a top up part time , so I now have QTS, EYPS. (Not that I use either anymore after changing sectors!!)

Orangeblossom1975 · 17/03/2021 13:01

As they are different it wouldn't be possible to have both QTS and EYTS / EYPS

OP posts:
Orangeblossom1975 · 17/03/2021 13:02

Can you do EYPS as an add on online I wonder

OP posts:
MyOtherProfile · 17/03/2021 16:11

I really don't think you would need to do the EYPS if you have QTS. Is this a specific job you're going for? If so ask them directly.

wowsaidtheowl · 18/03/2021 19:27

I have QTS with a lower primary focus (3-8yr olds) and am head of early years. Your qualification is fine. EYTS only allows you to teach in early years - it’s a bit limiting career wise. Most teachers that I know teaching in EYs have QTS.

wowsaidtheowl · 18/03/2021 19:27

Don’t bother with EYPS!

@wowsaidtheowl

Don’t bother with EYPS!
Why?
