School journey time LEH and JAGS

We are moving to London in July.

DD1 got offer from LEH (Y10 Lady Eleanor Holles) and DD2 got offer from JAGS (Y6 James Allen Girls' School). We are considering the place we are going to settle (e.g. maybe in-between these 2 schools) and the school journey time for both DD1 and DD2.

Just like to see if anyone has similar experience and suggestions for us regarding the settling place and to commute to both schools.

Many thanks

Wow, that's a distance! I think Wimbledon is your only option. The Wimbledon Hampton / LEH coach with 2 route options is popular and there will be other dd from her year group on the coach. Remember you will need to be able to drive to LEH for school events and dropping off on Saturdays for sports. Is there no way LEH juniors can take your dd2?

Is your Y10 daughter likely to stay on at LEH for sixth form? If unlikely, I would give more weight to your Y6 daughter’s commute as she will have to do it for longer.
Having said that, I think there is a train from Wimbledon direct to North Dulwich - not sure of journey times or frequency - plus the coach service

Thanks Skatingpark97 & 365sleepstogo for you advice. We tried LEH for dd2, but we unfortunately missed the registration deadline (my fault !).

If we stay at Wimbledon, which area would be recommended for family ?

My Y10 DD would likely stay on at LEH for 6th form, and so in fact I may try LEH again for my dd2 for Y7 entry next year.

Look for a house near a bus stop and consider renting for the first year. There are lots of prep schools in the Hampton / Twickenham area that would take your dd2 and prepare her for LEH entrance exam and she could move to LEH with some of her classmates if you want to live locally to LEH.

Thanks Skatingpark97. We do have similar thought as yours not taking the offer of JAGS and instead find a local school around Hampton for dd2. But Y6 places seem very dependent on occasional vacancies which are not as common as other year groups (as many are staying in their current schools preparing for 11+). We heard about Hampton Court House (HCH) School and are thinking if we should try this one if we give up JAGS. Does anyone have any comments on HCH or any other school suggestions ?

I will send you a pm when I'm near a laptop but not HCH because it's an all though school. You need to try Newland House and The Old Vicarage. Or Holy Cross in Kingston.

You could try somewhere in the Queens Road / South Park area of Wimbledon. Walking distance to the LEH stop on Worple Road (Elys) and the Thameslink to Herne Hill for JAGS.

Thanks Skatingpark97 for your suggestions.

We are too late. Holy Cross Y5 Y6 all full already...

There is also Park Hill Prep in Kingston, near Holy Cross. Very different type of school than HC (we were torn between the 2 when deciding) but don't regret choosing Park Hill at all, our child is thriving academically.

How about Old Vicarage? I've just checked school's website and learned the students went to good secondary schools too.

Regarding Jack & Jill, the first cohort of Y6 sits 11+ in 2020, does anyone know about the results and leavers' destination ?

Our dd is academic and average on music and sports, any view on which school better suits her ?

Thanks

Talk to the registrar at Jack and Jill. They have a good ethos and have thought a lot about what provision they want to offer. Ask them about results, could be a good option to them apply to LEH. Is your daughter starting Y6 in September?

Old Vicarage also a good option and you could also look at the preps in Kew, also good feeders to the London schools.

Thank you so much for all your sincere advices.

Let me check with these schools to see if any seat available for Y6 in Sep2021.
