Hello, I was hoping I might be able to get some advice on secondary schools in North Somerset. We have recently moved to the area (Long Ashton) and are renting but looking to buy. I have a child in year 4 so secondary school needs to be a consideration in terms of where we buy. We are leaning towards Backwell. Want to be well connected to Bristol and able to commute there easily for work. Would like the kids to be able to access Bristol easily as teenagers. Will also have a younger child at primary in Long Ashton so don't want to move too far. And actually we really like Long Ashton but it doesn't seem to fall into the catchment for any secondary schools we are looking at. In terms of what we know about secondary schools, it's only what we have read online. As we moved here in lockdown we haven't had the chance to meet people properly yet! We like the sound of Backwell but heard that it's not so good for arts and music etc. Also like the sound of Gordano but don't know anything about it really apart from that it's popular and has an outstanding ousted rating. We heard recently about Churchill which sounds good but maybe a bit far from Bristol for us. Also there is obviously Nailsea but I'm a bit put off by the ofsted report, even though I have heard that it's popular. Would love some opinions by local parents. Also, do kids living in Long Ashton usually get into Backwell? Or does it depend year on year? Thank you!
