Moving to Devon/West Somerset - need help!!

Hello!

We are looking to move to Devon (or potentially west Somerset) this summer and I haven’t lived down there since I was a child so need some help with areas and schools...

Hubby will be working from home so we can be based anywhere really but I guess we will be guided by schools.

We are looking at private for our son (he will be 3 and a half when we move likely and he currently goes to nursery and loves it so we would be looking at somewhere for him to hopefully continue from nursery age upwards at the same school if suitable).

We like Blundell’s from what I have seen/read but unfortunately we cannot visit obviously at the moment..does anyone have experience or suggestions?

Also in terms of areas to live, we are looking for a 4 bed detached house with a bit of land and annexe/outbuildings not too isolated as we want to get involved in the community and make friends/socialise.

Sorry I know it’s all a bit vague but we are not tied to a particular area for work or anything so would be really grateful of any suggestions/advice!!

Thank you in advance 😊

If you want independent schools I think you need to move to one of the places where there are several clustered together- preferably with decent state schools as a back-up. At 3 you don't really know what your DS will need, so it makes sense to move somewhere that will have multiple options.

I would suggest:
North of Exeter (Exeter School, Blundells, Colyton, Uffculme)

East Dorset- Poole or Dorchester (Canford, Bryanston, Poole Grammar/ Thomas Hardye)

North Dorset/ South Somerset (Sherborne, Leweston, King's Bruton, Sexey's, Gryphon- no grammar school)
