Queensgate or Emanuel?

We were very lucky to be offered spots in both schools. Unfortunately my child wasn’t able to visit them due to the lockdown so it’s a very hard choice. I know that the choice is obviously between single sex and co Ed, but also QG is walking distance and Emanuel is 45 minutes bus. So difficult to choose! We would prefer the school that has more of international vibe as well as my child is mixed race and would not want her to feel singled out or anything, not sure if both schools are similar in that respect? We love Co Ed schools but closeness of QG is so appealing!

Congratulations!!! I don't know either school very well so I can't comment, you should move this post to Secondary Schools so that more people will see it.

Thank you nylon! I created another post there, as I don’t know how to edit this and move it..

@Bunnyteam , congratulations. Our prep school head was always very complimentary about Queensgate.

Thank you so much Soma. We did not have a chance to visit it, but it seems like a great school with a very nice Head.

Congratulations on getting in! My DD has got accepted too. I’m not sure which school to pick. She is 11 and isn’t academic although, she thrives at maths, art and music. If anyone can tell me if their academic level is good?

Healthyflamingo · 12/02/2021 20:01

Also I forgot to say but my DD had only applied to Emanuel

Hi @Healthyflamingo, congratulations on the offer! Their latest GCSE and A-level results are very good, not as high as LU etc, but they are certainly high, and it’s been improving each year. Is the school close to you?

Thank you a lot! I agree, Emanuel’s GCSE/A-level results are great! But I was just wondering about the Art/Music things. The school is not particularly close to us. We live about in Knightsbridge/South Kensington Area!

Greenmarmalade · 12/02/2021 20:23

Very disappointed that this isn’t the baby names thread I thought it was.

You live Not too far to us @Healthyflamingo. We are also thinking about the distance, as the commute will be at least 50 minutes each way.

I travelled a long distance to school every day. I was bright kid but by the time I got home I was shattered so I rarely did my homework. It was mostly rushed at the last minute so I didn't get the important consolation that is needed. Because I was bright I got away with it but it didn't help me in the long run. If you are torn between the two then a short commute has to be worth considering as a really big bonus.

Coronateachingagain · 13/02/2021 12:28

Commute wins - for me it would be a clear case.

@Bunnyteam I posted on your other thread and saw this by accident whilst looking for something else... personally, I would describe Emanuel as very white middle class.. I think they are working quite hard to change this but from y9 up that would certainly be the case. Its representative of the local neighbourhood.

To caveat this, the local primaries have a large proportion of French, Italian and Spanish families.. also more recently Russian and Eastern Europeans who all take up offers in the school. So I guess it depends what you mean by International.. European yes, more widely perhaps no?

Pretty much every family I know at the school is inclusive, friendly and open minded. PM me if you need more clarification!

Ps.. as an offer holder, the school should be able to give you hard facts about diversity within the school which is probably better than outdated opinion!

I don't know QG but walking distance is a winner for me
Local friends is also a plus

Thank you @Stircrazyschoolmum! That seems quite international, somewhat similar to the school she is at, and she is enjoying it. Hopefully she will be able to get a better feel in the offer holder event as well!

Hi @Bunnyteam which school did you choose in the end? Was in Emanuel? Would be great to hear how your daughter is doing once term starts!
