I have used mumsnet many times in the past but my children are now grown up. I am currently at University studying a Bsc in Childhood and soon to start my dissertation. There are some amazing discussions on here about education and I wondered if anyone would be interested in take part in my research project? I had initially arranged to do my research directly with children but due to the current situation this is no longer possible. My research was initially looking at what was important to primary age school children, but I am now considering going directly to parents. It would involve the completion of a short online questionnaire and maybe a short telephone interview. I hope it was okay to post my request here, if not I apologise.

Should have said all responses to questionnaires and telephone interviews will be anonymous. Thanks

Hello,
Could anyone who's done it please list the steps involved in changing primary school?
The LEA website simply says "fill in a form, listing three preferences". What we actually want to do is try to get DS moved into one particular primary (our previous first choice in Reception), as we have glowing reports from parents there, and current school is no longer meeting his needs in our opinion.
What do we do, in what order? We obviously need to go on a waiting list, but do we approach the school directly? Is it all on line? Just a simple list of steps please! What did you do?
Many thanks!

Sorry, that was meant to be a new topic in Primary Education.

It might be local authority dependant but what we do is

  1. phone the school and ask if they have vacancies in the required year group. If you want, ask for a visit.
  2. if yes, apply via the local authority website, there is an online form to fill in. The local authority then confirms with the school that there is still a space ( which there should be as you have just checked!), the school confirms and the local authority offer you a place
  3. you say yes, the local authority offers you a place, you contact the school and arrange a start date.

The only difficulty is if the school doesn't have a place. Then you either appeal or ask to go on a waiting list.
