Brand New Building Project! What would YOU love to see?

Title briefly outlines what I need from you mumsnetters on this lovely Saturday evening.

A local property developer has purchased a fair bit of land (disused building but will be knocked down to ground level)

He's fairly community minded and has asked local residents as to what they would like to see being built. (He's sent a flyer to most of the area)

The main idea is to build a brand spanking new Pre-school with all the modern facilities as the area is lacking one. Other ideas are a fully equipped gym, tennis court/basketball etc, function rooms (birthday, engagements etc)

In addition to this, if you were a local resident what would you like to see? The area isn't fantastic- it does have its own little high street, a slight youth/crime problem, which I think the sports rooms will help.

It has great transport links and is easy to get to from the city centre.

What would you love to see being built if you were a resident?

I should add, what would make this project stand out more than the others. There is a similar building not far from this place that boasts sport facilities, I don't think a repeat of that would be great.

Things that would make me want to move to an area:

Community room for events, youth clubs, aerobics/zumba/yoga etc.

A library

A good gastropub serving excellent real ale and proper (cooked from scratch) food.

But the developer will need to ensure that they get a reasonable return on investment, assuming they aren't planning to incorporate as a charity. So there will need to be a balance because a lot of these things aren't going to be very profitable, although if they exist they will contribute to the value of the residential property around them.

Community space if that doesn’t exist in the area. That might include a shop but only if it would not destroy another local business and there are enough people to staff as volunteers sustainably.

Otherwise a building that could be developed based on someone deciding to run a business. You need someone who wants to run a business, researches whether there is a need etc. A preschool, gym or cafe or hairdressers might be a good idea if there is a need but to be profitable you need someone that knows what the local market is and good business knowledge. Also need to find out what current planning rules allow and how likely it would be to get a change if that was wanted.

I think one of those combined day centre/ pre-school facilities where young children can spend some time playing and interacting with elderly day centre users would be awesome.

Facilities for teenagers. Purpose built youth centres are rare as hens teeth, and DC are teen for longer than they are toddlers

Some great ideas. With the current worldwide situation I'm thinking some resources should go towards mental health and supporting the community in that sense.

What particular or specific plans could we project to the developer?
