Late entry to masters course- any chance

I wanted to do my masters but due to being furloughed I put off applying because I needed my professional qualification to apply and my cpd was behind as I'm usually sent on courses and I was worried I wouldn't actually finish my cpd for the year.

Anyway the deadline for applying to the masters course was in December and the university don't reopen until 04.01 so I can't ask yet but is there any chance at all I may squeeze myself in when there's a January start? So depressed about the situation. Want to start studying in this half of the year while we're still in lockdown as dc going back to school so I can actually do it and get off on the right foot instead of starting in the next intake which is July.
Thanks

Well universities generally want your money so if you're paying and there's still a space , I think you have got a chance.

CleanAndPaidFor · 01/01/2021 08:31

If they've got a space they'll take you and if they're full they won't. It's as simple as that really. They won't leave spaces empty just because you didn't apply in time.

inquietant · 01/01/2021 08:32

Yes of course if you will be paying and are UK (so no visas required)!

Thank you this has definitely given me a lot more confidence to phone on 4th!
I know I will not get through a summer start with primary aged dc and really don't want to wait another year to start

@purplehandbag you didn't say whether it was a specific course you were interested in. However, there are some University of London masters courses which begin at various points throughout the year and can be done via distance learning. See here: london.ac.uk/

TunnelEnd · 03/01/2021 10:34

For example, this one has a March deadline for an April intake: london.ac.uk/courses/data-science-msc

RaspberryCoulis · 03/01/2021 10:37

What are you hoping to study? I'm in the first year of a part-time masters and enjoying it very much.

Hollybutnoivy · 05/01/2021 16:56

@purplehandbag How did you get on?

purplehandbag · 05/01/2021 17:19

Depressing update. Next course intake June 2020
The university doesn't even have open phone lines I'd have to submit an enquiry but they also had a specific part of their website saying no late entries at all. I did phone the number anyway but it didn't even ring.

Oh no. Sorry to hear that.

inquietant · 05/01/2021 18:32

Oh that's a shame! I am surprised as I registered late - but it was a long time ago.

purplehandbag · 05/01/2021 19:20

I also thought that would be the case but I think it's due to coronavirus they've taken out phone lines and automated everything where they can unfortunately.

I am going to spend this year attempting to set the equivalent study time needed aside for myself so my family can adjust to me not being available to help everyone all of the time not looking at dh at all.
Thanks for all the replies
