Are primary schools going to be closed in Jan and Feb?

Anyone with a crystal ball out there? What do we think - will primary schools be closed Jan and Feb?
For reasons which I wont bore everyone with we are moving DS2 over Xmas from one prep school to another. He didn't really get on with 'guided home learning' last time as he has no affinity for talking to someone over a screen for more than 5 mins. He's year 3 now and bright but not interested in listening / talking to a screen. Home learning last time was tough as I work full-time. I've given notice at the old school and we don't owe them for next term and I haven't yet signed on the dotted line for the new school.
DS1 we were planning to move at half term but he could leave the old school now and we wouldnt owe them any notice and we could save half a term's fees. Good idea or not?

I bloody well hope early years and primary will not be closed.

Already paid DD1s fees for next term 😤

Echobelly · 22/12/2020 15:38

I hope not, but preparing for it and keeping work holiday in reserve for helping out with gone schooling.

TBH part of the school move is that I have practically been home tutoring DS1 and DS2 in maths anyway so I'm comfortable doing it for 6 weeks and we have the opportunity to dive out. As Alex1889 says we are usually already tied in Shock. I think we may see what happens over the next week and then see where we are.

Is there no notice period?

angrysquirrel73 · 22/12/2020 16:13

Letseatgrandma no we have done the notice period.

We had a email from both prep schools today. Both are planning to be open as usual, but with testing before starting for DS2(year8).
Personally I don’t know, Tuesday’s cases are usually the highest and they weren’t as bad as I thought they’d be.

I’m not sure it’s worth paying for the next half term if you don’t need the childcare

Missing the point slightly, but how normal are these prep schools and why do people go for them?! Honestly never heard of them prior to mumsnetting, other than a very posh Cheltenham thing and not for normal people.

Echobelly · 22/12/2020 19:56

Johnson has this evening apparently said that will see how things develop, when asked about schools opening. I'm taking the fact that he hasn't blustered about 'Of course they will/must be' to indicate they won't be, as there's not a chance infections will do anything but go up in the next week.

MrPickles73 · 22/12/2020 21:59

indecisivelurcher how helpful is your comment? You'll be disappointed to hear we don't live in Cheltenham Grin

Indecisivelurcher · 23/12/2020 07:33

Not helpful at all I know! But it was a genuine question although badly put.

Indecisivelurcher · 23/12/2020 07:35

I lived in Cheltenham for many years so that's my only idea of what a prep school is. Which is partly why I was interested.

For what it's worth the secondary school that my mum works at is all prepared to move to online learning in the new year, 'just in case'. She was right about the last lock down.

Tagging something on to the school hols seems to make sense as a circuit breaker doesn't it. I hope it's not too long though as my 3yo has only just settled into preschool and it should really help his school transition in September. And my 6yo is very non compliant with doing her work for me, she does better with school routine. Maybe I should have asked Father Christmas for a printer...

Hopefully more helpful. Shouldn't mumsnet after a baileys, i had forgotten its stealth...
