do you want the focus to be the writing itself or the character profile bit...as I know a few that give loads of character info but are fairly informal

but if you are going for more sentence structure malarky (nice 'happy coincedences' of good use of language, then the characterisation or first person bit is harder to find...

for example

double act by jacqueine wilson has a very informal character introduction in the first person........

whereas great expectation has a superb paragraph, written in Dickens style, but it is the third person......but i have used it with middle year six set and got some stunning written work based on it........ (but not first person)

we read the first chapter of great expectations....where pip is inthe grave yard and meets Magwich....the description begins:
"A feaful man, all in coarse grey, with a great iron on his leg..."

I have a writing frame for structuring your own writing (we described Mr Twit from The Twits using Dickens style)
