Hello, I’m wondering if anyone can give me some tips about primary/prep schools in or around Bath please. My DS (7) is not doing well at his state primary, despite the fact that it’s a great school. No SEN as far as we know but he just seems to be struggling (although fairly happy) and year after year he falls below the school’s “expected” level and got extremely low marks in recent assessments. He seems to be falling further behind as time goes by. I think this is all because of a mixture of him being one of the youngest in the year, a bit lost in a class of 30, and just someone who takes a while to get to grips with things (and the impact of lockdown to some extent). He is bright and sparky to talk to and is good with words, but struggles with maths and writing. We are primarily considering independent schools as we think he’d benefit from a smaller class size, but he would not do well in a highly pressurised environment because struggling in his lessons has started to make him anxious. We’re also considering the option of moving him down a year. Can anyone recommend anywhere - preferably co-ed, where he’d be able to get a place (possibly mid-year) despite low grades/reports and the fact that he wouldn’t do well in an assessment, and where he’d get the support he needs. Instinctively I feel that he will catch up in the end but he needs to be in an environment that suits him better. Very many thanks!
