Hi - we are trying to prep for these - no tutor and no prep school....

Are they more like the CEM or GL assessments? I am ordering practice books to help and not sure which ones are the best. They only have 1 past paper on line so difficult for me to work it out. Does anyone know the rough pass % for maths?

Save yourself a lot of paper and try atom learning.

We found bits of paper were ok but they took lots of marking and it was messy.

If I did it again I would do atom and save paper tests from April of the year of the test.

Over the past three years I've put my two daughters through the 11+ at Forest and Bancroft's. The older one also sat CLSG and the younger one sat for Chigwell. They were offered places at all three schools they each sat for and both are currently attending Bancroft's.

I have no idea whether they assessments are more like CEM or more like GL - I can't discern any appreciable difference between these two methods from a brief search online.

What we did was
i) lots of workbooks - Bonds English and Maths are quite good as are the Schofield and Sims maths workbooks. I imagine the Atom Learning @noughtmare references is probably fairly similar and may be better because although Bonds gives you the answers, Schofield and Sims doesn't and you have to work them out yourself when marking which is a bore.
ii) lots of past papers. Yes Forest, Bancroft's only have one past paper online (Bancroft actually has none at the moment), but I trawled the admissions sites of loads of other schools and printed out many past papers - they are all fundamentally the same. You might have luck still finding them online at the following which I used:

  • Dulwich College
  • City of London School for Girls
  • North London Collegiate
  • Haberdasher's Aske Boys and Girls
  • St Albans High
  • Sevenoaks School
  • Alleyn's School
  • St Paul's School for Girls
  • Manchester Grammar
  • North London Independent Consortium

According to their website Bancroft's are doing something slightly different with regard to their admissions process this year to take account of Covid, but I imagine it will be fairly similar to past years in many regards.

Lastly April of the year of the test is too late as the exams are all done in Jan/Feb.
