SO I am a little peeved that DS (7) who hates to write has to do a project on a black person he admires. What I was upset at was the level of writing expected. DP on the other hand found the whole concept of Black History Month patronising and if history was taught with a little more attention and a little bit more honesty then we would have no need for Black History Month. DP is black.

I think it adds to his charm that he had no idea! Blair would have smarmed his way where Brown seemed more concerned about tackling the root of the problem - shame he didn't know how to communicate it more effectively!

If he was a Tory then people would be lambasting him for 'being out of touch'. But since it's a Labour politician it's called "charming"!?

As it happens DS's gtranthfather's cousin was the first black congresswoman in the US so we could write about her. Not someone I had ever heard of before but she sounds like an interesting character.

I did wonder how other minority groups might feel not having a month devoted to their culture.

well there aren't enough months...

Which brings us nicely back to history needing to be more inclusive and to tell the whole story................
