Reception admissions

We are currently applying for a reception place and there are two local schools being considered.

I've never seen either of them inside and because of Covid restrictions they are understandably not holding open days any time soon.

Want to get the applications in good time, but don't want to put a first choice without having seen them - does anyone know are you able to change preferences later down the line?

The applications deadline is mid Jan. Why not wait a bit, and see what happens after half term. You may find that open says can happen then.
Our secondary are doing a virtual open day, and many places might put stuff online.
Walking past the schools at break time may give you an indication of how the kids and staff are - but dont become a stalker!

On our council website you can change your list up to closing date... Because one school only had an open day in January (and parents were nervous about forgetting to submit) some parents put the order they thought into the system early.. Then went in and changed if needed after viewed last school.

Our online applications system allows us to change preferences before the closing date. There's no benefit getting your application in early rather than closer to the deadline - as long as you remember when the deadline is! Schools may offer some viewings are arrange something once theyve settled back into the new term.

We could - there us no real rush though because there is no benefit to getting the application in early from an allocation point of view. We could only change to the closing date.

I would wait. You aren’t any better off applying now than you would be the day before the deadline.
